I wanted to check in and let you know how Archer (formerly Cocoa) is doing. He is SO WONDERFUL!! Thanks to you both and Save One Soul for adopting out such a great lovebug to us. Matt and I are over the moon in love!! I’ve attached photos of Archer (passed out on his little bed in his room – we’ve been crating him at night but during the day he has free reign of his room, sleeping in my arms, and his adorable little face).
He has taken very easily to the crate and is making it through the night holding his bladder but has the option of a wee wee pad in case he needs it. He’s going potty outside like a champ. And has taken to his collar and being walked on a leash very well. I bought a baby gate so that he can be safe in his room and not be isolated as the cats become familiar with him as it allows them do walk-bys (they are a tad freaked out). Mostly, two of them sit on the other side and stare at him all day.
He loves the cats, but he’s not overly excited when approaching them which is pretty amazing. He’s a cross between mellow and “hey you! let’s be friends!” when they interact. Sometimes he doesn’t even notice them when walking by them on the leash to go outside! One of them, Piper, has already touched noses a few times. We’re taking the face-to-face introductions slowly and I’m feeling very positive about the final outcome (no matter how long it takes) for them all to be comfortable. As I mentioned in my application, Quinny is very fearful and we are so proud that he is spending time upstairs again (he wouldn’t come up the first day at all) and he’s eating again and he’s being brave enough to stand on the other side of the baby gate and stare at Archer.
Archer is a wonderful dog and we are SO EXCITED that he’s in our lives! Thank you, thank you!
Devon (and Matt!)
