My husband and I can’t say thank you enough for bringing this adorable, crazy, blanket stealing, sock (loving) stealing, caffeinated, teething furry toddler into our lives! ? All kidding aside, Kane has fit into our lives like he’s always been here. It’s hard to remember what life was like before Kane. He’s adjusted so incredibly well. I was so terrified he’d be so skittish, and afraid of everything. With a little patience, and a consistent schedule, he has adjusted so well. He passed puppy kindergarten classes with basic commands. Due to covid-19, we did lots of training before a class became available, and he was a little bored because he learned most of those commands at home. But the socialization was great for him. He made friends with our neighbor’s dog, Brady, and with slow introductions he now loves running around with him. My oldest son is a senior in high school this year, and was so happy to take Kane to his senior portrait session. Kane has also been to the beach for the first time for our family portraits too. He was more interested in eating the sand and chasing the sea gulls than anything else.

Today, Kane is 7 months old and is approaching 55 pounds! He’s getting so big, and LOVES food. I’ve been taking pictures each month & it’s so fun to watch him grow. He hates water, and refuses to go out in the rain. We had an early snowfall here last week with about 6″ of snow, and Kane LOVED it. He wanted outside all day long, we had to trick him to come inside to warm up. Zoomies in the snow are so much fun, lol. He also loves walks, especially around the pond near our house. We can’t walk the pond, or out anywhere, without being stopped and told how handsome he is. Kane is a little skittish meeting new people, but with a sit command and slow introduction, he’s good. My favorite is when we come home, even if we’ve only been gone for 15 minutes, his wigglebutt goes crazy to say hi to us. We’re working on him jumping to greet us. He is our guard dog for sure, and alerts us to anyone in the driveway or at the door.  I think he might be part human, as he prefers a bed, blanket, and pillow than his dog bed. He snores like one too. He often steals blankets and hides them in his crate. There isn’t a squeaker chew toy that he hasn’t destroyed, we’re lucky if they last a week. Tug of war is his favorite game. In attempts to outsmart him, we’ll hide treats and train him with the “find it” command. He’s so smart, and thrives when challenged, he loves this game. It doesn’t take long for him to locate the treats. He also loves to fetch, and will chase the ball for a while, if not distracted by leaves that fall around him. My daughter loves his silliness, and playing games with him in the yard, especially when it snowed last week. The winter will be interesting for sure. We even ordered him a winter jacket.

He is a favorite at his Vet’s office, even though he’s not so much a fan of them. Kane was dealing with a dermatitis breakout. The vet seems to think it might have been environmental, due to the changes of New England versus the hot dry south weather he was used to, and possibly a reaction to his vaccinations. After lots of research of a potential cause, I decided to eliminate chicken from his diet and he hasn’t had a breakout since. He also is up to date on his shots, so we’re hoping that by the time he’s due for vaccinations he’ll have grown out of it. His hair is growing in where the rash was on his belly, and all the skin issues he had are gone! We give him an omega supplement that I think has been helping. All under the watch of his Vets, of course. He still has site reactions to his vaccinations & requires benadryl before hand. Vet says he’s in perfect shape and body condition! We love the Vet’s office we chose, and have been excellent though the closures and regulations from covid-19.
2020 has been such a crazy, stressful, and unusual time, and we are so grateful that Kane and SOS came into our lives. SOS was so easy to work with throughout the entire process. Jocelyn, you were fantastic answering my 101 questions, and any concerns that we had. The guidance was amazing for first time puppy owners like us. In spite of all the changes we’ve experienced in this unprecedented 2020, Kane has been the BEST remedy and thank you doesn’t seem like enough. I can’t forget to mention Angie, Kane’s foster mom. He was so incredibly lucky to have someone who took such great care to give him the best start in life. I’ve attached some pictures of Kane. Again, thank you doesn’t seem like enough. All the work that each of you do, makes happy endings like Kane’s possible.

All the best,

Wendy & Kevin Maher
