Winter Update from Smokey: Smokey came into our lives at the hardest time for us. In February of 2018 we had to put both of our dogs down two weeks apart. It was gut wrenching. We said we weren’t ready, though in our hearts I think we knew our home was empty and needed a furry piece to make it whole again! I had contacted Lindsey on possibly finding a dog for us down the road, as I was also 5 months pregnant at the time. She suggested I look at their current adoptable dogs to help get an idea of what we were looking for. I saw Smokey’s face and fell in love. Lindsey connected me with his foster dad, Troy, and he let us know all things Smokey. We went to meet him on St. Patrick’s Day, a BIG holiday in our very Irish home. It was love at first sight! Our sweet little fluff was scampering around greeting new dogs, and playing. We knew he was meant to be ours! We brought him home that day and he fell into our lives as if he had always been there! Smokey is shy, and tends to be afraid of people. But when it comes to our two year old daughter, Clare, that could not be more different. Smokey loves Clare, she is his person. They chase each other around the house for hours, both with big smiles on. Smokey is very protective of our home and each of us, though especially so with Clare. In June I had to be rushed to the hospital with kidney problems were I remained for a week. When I came home, Smokey cried and laid on my feet. He’s been extremely mindful of me ever since. When we brought our son home, smokey stayed close to us. Every whimper and cry from Will triggered an anxious alert reaction from Smokey, as he doesn’t like to see his kiddos upset! Still, 4 months later, if Will cries, he runs to me as if to say “MOM! HELP! TINY BOY IS UPSET! FIX IT PLEASE!!!”. We couldn’t imagine our lives without him. He is the happiest, goofiest, snuggliest fluff boy and we are so grateful to SOS and to his foster dad Troy for saving him so we could give him his furever home!
